Peavine Maze Maintenance
The Peavine Maze is a network of motorized singletrack trails in the Carson Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, centralized on the Western slope of Peavine Mountain northwest of Reno, Nevada. The trails are a destination for flowy and scenic woods riding, and are widely accessible from North Reno, Northwest Reno and Verdi. While the "maze" has been a part of the USFS system for decades, it has weathered many years of damage from popular use and annual erosion without any interval maintenance until Reno Area Dirt Riders' adoption of this trail system.
The objective of this project is to #keeptrailsrad and restore the integrity and nature of true singletrack trails by:
- Narrowing trails back to true singletrack width.
- Strategically restricting trail entry points to prevent 4-wheel OHV access using natural barriers.
- Updating missing or destroyed signage to communicate motorcycle-only trail use.
- Leveling whoops.
- Mitigating erosion issues.
- Certain strategic re-routes of sections of trail to either mitigate an issue or create a better user experience.
- Addition of certain features to enhance the trails where appropriate.
- Installing a bridge in compliance with USFS engineer approval over a drainage crossing in the 304 trail where a major erosion issue exists.
We are committed to maintaining this unique and valuble resource
We ride the maze and want it to be there for the next generation too
We are working with the USFS and other like minded groups.
We are making plans for 2025 to keep moving forward and work with Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship to connect to their trail network.
