Peavine Maze Connectivity
Tucked away on the West side of Peavine Mountain on the California/Nevada border, the maze trails are a favorite backyard playground for Reno locals and a popular destination for visitors. As wonderful as the maze is, it has a very limited amount of legal singletrack trails which are clustered and surrounded by 4x4 trails. The inadequate trail connectivity and limited loop riding is failing to meet a growing demand for increased recreation in this area.

In the neighboring Tahoe National Forest to the West (and beyond), there are two major singletrack trail development projects being implemented:
- Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is in Phase 1 of their massive legacy project called the Connected Communities Project, which will connect 13 small communities in Sierra Nevada Mountains with a network of 300 miles of singletrack trails.
- Tahoe National Forest, Truckee Ranger District is developing approximately 70 miles of new motorized singletrack trails through their East Zone Connectivity and Restoration Project with the support of the Truckee Dirt Riders.
This project's ambition is to create more legal singletrack opportunities within the maze so that riders can avoid the double-track trails and dirt roads when accessing the maze from the Mitchel Canyon staging area, and connect into the expansive new trail networks being simultaneously developed in the neighboring Tahoe National Forest. A more detailed write-up of the project can be found here.
